An Esquina (or ‘Corner’) in Sao Paulo with the Spirit of Minas. Meet Souza, owner of one of the most predominant bars of the cocktail scene and a paulista reference in caipirinhas – Esquina do Souza.
Its story began at Bistrô, a French house in Consolação, which opened for short periods for happy hours. Creative, the Master was gaining space, and was invited to direct the cocktails at Veloso Bar, one of the most traditional spaces in the city.
An expert in caipirinhas, Souza migrated from classic orders to the most artistic recipes, mixing ingredients full of flavors and textures in to the drink that is a symbol of Brazil.
But his fame didn’t just stay in the glass. 13 years later, he holds 4 awards for best bartender in São Paulo, by Veja SP – Comer e Beber, as well as other awards such as: Prazeres da Mesa and Go’Where Magazine.
“I loved working at Veloso Bar, but I knew I could go further. I wanted to create more exotic drinks, with totally different flavors”.
Along with his partner, Tatiana Balbino, Souza decided to take the plans off the paper and gave life to Esquina do Souza. It was not long before the bar became a reference and captivated the public of the whole city.
“My greatest happiness is seeing people from all over the city come to know Esquina. This kind of recognition is priceless”.
Happiness toasted the partnership between Souza and Espírito de Minas cachaça with the Esquina Tropical – a drink made exclusively for our campaign.
